On July 14, 1943, a beautiful, creative and gifted spirit was born to Kenneth Johnson and Alice Holdaway Halling in Brigham City, Utah. They named her Cheryl and as she often reminded us, she was the "middle child". Cheryl passed away on April 22, 2006 at the home of her daughter in Logan, Utah. Cheryl attended school in Brigham City and graduated from Box Elder High School in 1961. While in high school she played violin in the orchestra and attended Girls State. She claims she was too shy to do much else but those who came to know her later find it difficult to believe. She had a generous and open manner and was a friend to all. She attended Utah State University where she studied home economics and was a member of Lambda Delta Sigma. While attending USU she met and married the love of her life, Michael Lee Delaney. They were married on April 14, 1967 in the Logan LDS Temple. Cheryl was naturally gifted in creative pursuits. Some of the things she enjoyed were crocheting, tole-painting, quilting, writing poetry, floral arranging, calligraphy and sewing. She was passionate about photography and scrapbooking. She delighted in photographing her grandchildren. She was a founding member of the Northern Utah Calligraphy Assoc., a member of the Northern Utah Camera Club and the local Quilting Guild. Family was very important to her. She loved family gatherings and reunions. She tried to talk her doctor into letting her out of the hospital last year to attend the Halling family reunion. She was a lifelong and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings including: Primary President, Stake Relief Society board, Librarian, Cub Scout leader and Relief Society Presidency. She was comforted in her last days by a knowledge of a life after this and was looking forward to seeing her parents again. In August of 1995 Cheryl was given a new lease on life when she received a liver transplant at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City. This allowed her an extra 10 ½ years to welcome eight grandchildren into the family in addition to the four she already adored. Because of her experience she became a spokeswoman for and supporter of organ donation. (Have you signed your card?) In addition to her work at home she worked for Alco, Sew Easy and Herff-Jones. Cheryl is survived by her husband, Michael of Wellsville and her five children Kristine (Lonnie) Hansen of Logan, David of Tucson, AZ, Charles (SarahAnn) of Logan, Shawn (Ann) of Malad, ID. and Robert (Jennifer) of Brigham City. She is also survived by her twelve beautiful and much photographed grandchildren: Joshua, Sarah and Jacob Hansen, Dakota Delaney, Anna and Nathan Delaney, Cortney, Trevor, Jonathan, Colton and Allyson Delaney and Rebecca Delaney. Also her siblings and their spouses: Reva (James) Cates of Hopewell, VA, Eugene (Dee) Halling of Clearfield, Reed D. (Geri) Halling of Murray, Colleen (Dennis) Spence of Brigham City and Steve (Sue) Halling of Newburg, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents Ken and Alice Halling. The family would like to extend thanks to the Transplant team at LDS hospital, Dr. Duane Bohman and Dr. Ali Ben-Jacob and their staffs for the excellent care and friendship they extended to Cheryl. Also a thank you to the staff at IHC Hospice for the tender care and service they provided. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2006 at 12 Noon at the Wellsville Stake Center, 30 South Center, Wellsville, Utah Family will greet friends on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Wellsville 4th Ward Relief Society Room, 49 West 200 South, Wellsville, Utah and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Wellsville Stake Center.
