Businesswoman, Activist, Environmentalist and Civil Servant. Amy Louise Camacho Wardle, better known as Amy Camacho, was the oldest of the eight children of Carlos Camacho Espíritu and Louise Wardle. When she was very young, her family moved to the city of Puebla, settling near Lake Valsequillo and the Atoyac River, where they started a private wildlife collection. On April 2, 1972, the Camacho family opened the doors of Africam Safari, the first zoo of its kind in Latin America, to house the animals in a free space that resembles life in their natural habitat. After the death of her father and mother in 1980, at the age of 17, Amy assumed leadership of the zoo with the support of her younger siblings. Between 1980 and 2011, she was CEO of Africam Safari, being president of the Board of Directors from 2011 until her death. Under Amy's direction, Africam Safari became one of the most important animal sanctuaries in Mexico and Latin America, housing more than 5,000 animals of 450 species and with an important conservation program for endangered animals. The magazine "Expansión" considered her one of the 10 most influential women in Mexico. Between 1996 and 2000 she was president of the State Council of Tourism of Puebla. In addition, she participated as a member of the strategic decision table of the Puebla City Council from 2002 to 2005. She was a counselor of various public and private institutions, including the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla, the Universidad de las Américas Puebla and the civil association Naturalia, A.C. She was head of the Secretariat for Environmental Sustainability and Territorial Planning in the state of Puebla from 2011 to 2012, during the mandate of Rafael Moreno Valle Rosas, promoting projects such as the creation of the Metropolitan Ecopark and the interactive museum of the Atoyac River.
