Larry Brunk 73, of Athens, died early Monday morning, June 22, 2020, at the Bowers Hospice House following a courageous battle with Metastatic Cancer. Born January 1, 1947, in Spanishburg, he was the son of the late Albert W. Brunk and Dorothy M. Brunk. Larry was a graduate of Athens High School, Class of 1964, graduated from Valley College with a degree in Business Management and from VTEC with a degree in machine shop. He was a member of the Athens Lions Club and was currently serving on its Board of Directors. Larry served his country honorably in the WV National Guardand was a member of Mount Jackson Baptist Church in Athens. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. Larry was also preceded in death by his two four-legged canine friends, Trixie and Holly. He retired from The Dean Company with 36 years of service where he was a supervisor of the Sawmill and Log Yard as well the head sawyer. Larry followed in his grandfather’s footsteps in becoming a sawyer. After his retirement he became a master carpenter and furniture builder and built many pieces of furniture for himself as well as for his friends. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Lena Faye Robbins Brunk; Two sisters, Delorice Brunk and Kathleen Goad (Gary); Two brothers, Russell Brunk and Charles Brunk; Special nephew, David Lee Brunk; Special niece, Gloria Jean Brunk Jones; Special friends, Mark Stella and Lesley Ashford; Special feline companion, Susie. Private graveside services was held on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 in the Athens Cemetery.
