Charles Lorenzo Hacking was the son of Jane Clark and John Sampson Hacking. He was not as sturdy as his brothers, but was full of life and had a great love for music.

The home was made brighter by his playing, and anything that had music in it held an attraction for him. Sorrow came to the home when death came to him at the age of 24. At that time he owned a violin, guitar, mandolin, piccolo, and could play them all. He could also play the piano and organ and often played the organ and harmonica at the same time.
