Son of Reuben Dale (21 Sept 1720-Jan 1768, Richmond, VA) and Hannah Phillips. They married in 1745.

Married Elizabeth Booth (abt. 1762, VA-3 Jun 1847, Clay Co., MO) on Jul 29, 1789, Northumberland Co., VA.

Served in the Revolutionary War in the same VA. Line as his brother Cpl. Abraham Dale.

Dec. 10, 1790 — Between David Egbert of the county of Woodford and State of Virginia of one part and William Dale of the same county and State aforesaid of the other part XXX consideration Twenty pounds Virginia Currency by said Dale to said Egbert XXX Bargain and sold to Said William Dale one certain tract of Land situated in county aforesaid on waters of Greers Creek containing by Survey Thirty Six Acres XXX.

Book B, page 349; Jan. 1794 — William Dale is appointed Guardian to Reuben Dale an infant orphan of John Dale deceased who together with George Dale his surety entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penalty of Four Hundred pounds’ conditioned for securing the said orphans estate.

WILL OF WILLIAM DALE — In the name of God Amen — I William Dale of the county of Woodford and State of Kentucky being in low health but of sound mind and memory do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament revoking all others heretofore made by me. FIRST — I bequeath my Soul to God who gave it and my body to my Executrix to be buried in a decent and Christian like manner, I leave to my beloved wife — Elizabeth Dale during her life or widowhood all my Estate both real and personal at her discretion with power to sell exchange or dispose of in any way she shall think proper for the benefit of herself and family. If she should marry again it is my wish that she should take a third part of my Estate then remaining with full power to dispose of it as she shall think proper at her death. The balance of my property to be equally divided between my children namely JAMES B. DALE — SALLY WILLIAMS (formerly SALLY DALE) - LEWIS LUNTEF0RD [?] DALE - FRANCES DALE - WHITFIELD DALE - and JACOB CREATE DALE — It is my wish that my beloved wife ELIZABETH DALE be and is hereby appointed whole and Sole Executrix of my Estate without any appraisement of my property.
In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this 26th day of April in the year of cur Lord One Thousand and Twenty Two.

Information pertaining to the application for the Revolutionary War pension for William Dale, and updated to include the children to receive payments:

On 18 June, 1818, William Dale said he was age 61 of Woodford Co., Ky. On 2 Apr 1821 he said he was 64. Hence, William was born in 1757.
On 18 June, 1818, William Dale said that he enlisted in the year 1778 in the state of Virginia for one year in the company commanded by Capt. Harry Fauntleroy of the 5th Va. Regt., commanded by Col. Burgess Ball. He served until the year 1779 and was discharged at Lancaster, Pa. He was in the battle of Monmouth. On this same date Abraham Dale, also of Woodford Co., Ky., stated that he served at the same time William did. On 2 Apr 1821 in describing his staightened circumstances, William said "One son living with me at this time"..."(My other son Whitfield has left me)". Daughter Creath had a "white swelling".
On 20 May 1846 Elizabeth Dale, age 84, of Clay Co., Mo., said "Wm. resided in Co. of Richmond, Va. when he entered the service." She married William Dale 29 July 1789 in Northumberland Co., Va., but was unable to find a record of that county of the marriage. William Dale d. 7 June 1822. Elizabeth d. 3 June 1847 Clay Co., Mo. Her estate was settled there.

Sally said she was born in Woodford Co., Ky. Her firs husband died. She moved to Clay Co., Mo.

A family Bible published, in 1814 was presented as evidence of marriage and the births of the children of William and Elizabeth. This Bible was returned to some heirs in 1877, but the dates were copies on the back of one of the letters. The Bible records runs as follows:

There is no "last payment file" for William Dale.
A file does exist for Elizabeth Dale. Her application was finally approved a few days after she died on 3 June 1847 and since she was applying under the Acts of 1843 and 1844, nearly four installments of $40 were due. The amount distributed to the heirs ’was $159.89, for one day less than four years. There are several affidavits on the four leaves of a single folded sheet. One of these states that Timothy R. Dale was the executor of the Elizabeth Dale. His relationship is not given [nephew, son of William's brother Abraham]. Another affidavit states that Elizabeth Dale had been living in Clay Co., Mo., for two years prior to her death. She had previously living in Hancock Co., Illinois. No mention was made of her residence in Woodford Co., KY. The following heirs are listed:

It might be noted that Elizabeth Dale's application of 20 Hay 1846 was executed in the home of Jacob C. Dale "who lived about five miles from the County Seat". The last payment file gives his relationship to Elizabeth Dale and shows that he died within the intervening year. The 1840 census of Clay Co., MO., shows that Jacob C, Dale was in the ago group 30-40 and had five children under 10 years of age (all sons).
