Dennis Anton Kleinvachter, 85, of Sioux Falls, SD, formerly of Brandon, SD, died Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at Touchmark At All Saints. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM, Saturday, June 13th at Risen Savior Catholic Church in Brandon. Visitation will be 1:00 PM-6:00 PM with family present only from 1:00-3:00, Friday June 12th, at George Boom Funeral Chapel in Brandon.

Dennis was born in Strandquist, Minnesota on October 16, 1934 to Adolph Kleinvachter and Gladys Holmstrom. He was a Lincoln High School graduate in Thief River Falls, MN. He later graduated from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN with a degree in Accounting in 1956. After college he enlisted in the United States Army and served throughout Europe with the Army Audit Agency until honorably discharged in 1959.

Dennis married Patricia Ann Burns on October 8th, 1960 in Worthington, Minnesota, “the greatest moment of his life.” They had four children, Kim, Tom, Kelly and Julie. Dennis was a Special Agent with the Internal Revenue Service for 32 years and retired in 1987. Dennis then served as Brandon City Mayor from 1989-1997. Dennis and Patti relocated to Sun Lakes, AZ in 1997 where they lived until 2013 when Patti passed away. Dennis and Patti loved travelling throughout their married life with their children, and after retiring pursued their passion of road tripping around the country in their RV, and made dream trips to the Caribbean, Hawaii and Mexico.

Throughout his life Dennis was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. He was also an active member of Risen Savior Church, the Elks Lodge, Director of the Brandon Optimist Club, and was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus.

Left to cherish his memory are his children Kimberly Dolan (David) of Rapid City, SD, Thomas Kleinvachter (Shelly) of Humboldt, SD, Kelly Kleinvachter of Falls Church, VA and Julie Glauvitz-Ashby (John) of Colorado Springs, CO; siblings Arlette, Carol, Ivadell (Don), Beverly (David), Susan, Ronald (Diane); 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, wife Patricia, sister Lucille, and brothers Robert and James.
