Obituary: Jefferson City Post Tribune, March 2003

Nellie D. Ponder, 93, Iberia, died March 27, 2003, at Capital
Region Medical Center (Jefferson City). She was born Sept. 19, 1909, in
Iberia, a daughter of Thomas J. and Martha E. Shelton Duncan. She was
married April 12, 1935, in Versailles, to Virgil Ponder, who died Jan. 7,
1983.

She attended Cross Country School and was a 1928 graduate of
Iberia Academy. She graduated from college and taught school for 32 years.
She was a teacher at Alder Springs, Eldon School District and Iberia School
District.

She was a member of the Iberia Church of Christ and attended
Alder Springs Church of Christ. She taught Sunday school and vacation bible
school.

Survivors include two sisters, Edith Willis, Iberia, and Hazel
Schulte, Eldon. An infant daughter preceded her in death.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rekus Funeral Home,
Iberia, Charles Rose will officiate. Burial will be in Iberia Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today. Memorials are suggested to the
Iberia Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund.
