Radio Host Gaylon Rowan, 57, a KSL Radio announcer and "Public Pulse" host, died Wednesday morning after a short illness in a local hospital.

Mr. Rowan joined KSL Radio in February 1967 and began hosting the station's evening programming, including "Public Pulse".

In November 1979, Mr. Rowan began hosting KSL's nostalgia music program from midnight to 5 a.m. His background as a musician and band member gave him an insight of the best music of the past four decades. The 1951 University of Utah biology and education graduate, taught elementary education for nine years. He also studied educational administration at Brigham Young University and at the U. of U.

He was a pharmacists mate in the Navy during World War II. His duty stations included service in the South Pacific and China. In addition to his 17 years of service at KSL, Mr. Rowan also hosted programs at KLUB and KALL radio station in Salt Lake City, and worked in radio and television programming and management in Ogden and Provo.

He was born Oct. 7, 1926, Antimony, Garfield County, to Charles Elliot and Irene Noble Rowan. He married Janice Pitcher Sept. 30, 1983, in West Valley City.

Survivors include his wife, sons, Allan N., Salt Lake City; Ronald D., Provo; Steven W., Orem; daughters, Mrs Jamie Jackilyn, San Diego, Calif.; Mrs Don Oiler, Laramie. Wyo.; and Sandra, Salt Lake City; stepsons, Chris A. Pitcher, Todd M. Pitcher, Brian Lee Pitcher, and stepdaughters, Holly Anne Pitcher and Heidi Pitcher, all of West Valley City; 17 grandchildren, sisters, Mrs Don (Lucylle) Dawson, Houston, Texas; Mrs. Gordon C. (Rae) Mitchell, Provo; Mrs. Robert H. (Irene) Green, Phoenix. Ariz.; brothers, Elliott N., Daly City, Calif.; and Jerald G., Provo.

Funeral services will be held Friday 11 a.m. at the Hunter 5th Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Ward, 5000 Janette Ave. Friends may call Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Deseret Mortuary, 36 E. 700 S. and Friday one hour pior [sic - prior] to services. Interment will be in Provo City Cemetery.
