Our beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, Jerald Gordon Rowan (Jerry), passed away peacefully at his home on May 24, 2000 of natural causes after a short illness.

He was born May 1, 1916 in Antimony (Coyote), Utah to Charles Elliot Rowan, Jr. and Irene Noble. He lived in Antimony until the age of fourteen when the family moved to Houston, Texas, where his father served as mission president.

The family moved to Provo, Utah when he was nineteen so the children could attend college. Shortly after, he met his sweetheart and eternal companion, Edith Payne and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 19, 1940 after his honorable return from the East Central Mission. He graduated from BYU and worked for many years with his father in Rowan Realty and later as an abstractor with Security Title.

Jerry was active in the LDS Church, where he served as a bishop and member of a bishopric for more than twenty years. He loved sports and served for many years in the Region and Area Church Sports program. He was an avid horseman and BYU sports fan.

He is survived by his wife, Edith Rowan; and his four children, Lana Moon (Roger) Kaysville, Utah; Jerry Rowan, Jr. (Jullie), American Fork, Utah; Bill Rowan (Kay), Provo, Utah; and Jack Rowan (Robbi), Sandy, Utah; twenty-seven grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; and his sisters Lucylle Dawson (John) of Texas, Raye Mitchell (Gordon) of Utah, and Irene Green (Bob) of Arizona. Preceded in death by his brothers, Elliot Rowan and Gaylon Rowan; and his sisters, Colleen Rowan and Luella Christianson. He will be missed by many friends and family members.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2000 in the Pleasant View Ninth Ward Chapel, 2445 North 650 East, Provo.
