Madeleine was born in Berlin, New Hampshire, on September 11, 1935, a daughter of the late George E. and Delina L. (Duchesnaye) Riendeau. She lived most of her life in Berlin, however she did live in Massachusetts for a period of time where she trained and opened her home to foster children, often having 5 to 7 children in her home at one time. She continued with foster care after moving back to Milan. Madeleine cared for more than 85 foster children in her lifetime.
Madeleine will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Her greatest love was her family, she was a very loving, caring and devoted, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother as well as foster mother. She enjoyed music, especially the French Canadian Music. She loved to dance and travel, Cancun was absolutely her favorite vacation place. As a young woman she enjoyed camping and hunting.
She is survived by three sons; Maurice, Donald and Paul Croteau of Berlin. and a daughter; Diane (Croteau) Smith of Reno, Nevada. one stepson Stephen Lovejoy of Coral Gables FL. one stepdaughter Patricia Mary Lovejoy of Nashville, Tennessee. , a brother George Riendeau Jr. of Berlin and three sisters, Cecile Labbe and Lena Martin of Vista CA. and Anita Chateauneuf of Berlin. She also leaves 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her two husbands, Rosario Croteau and Charles Lovejoy, as well as one grandson Albert Turmel Jr. (Babe)
Friends and relatives called on the family on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the Fleury-Patry Funeral Home, 72 High Street in Berlin.
A funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday, January 7, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish. Interment will immediately follow the services in Hillcrest Cemetery in Milan NH.
