Stella Baldacci is dead at 101

Stella R. Baldacci, 101, a life-long South Scranton resident, died Monday evening at Mountain View Care Center, where she was a resident for five years. She was the widow of Joseph D. Baldacci, who died in 1965.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late John and Anna Karpinski Glogowski, she attended local schools and was employed as a hand sewer at Linder Brothers for 33 years prior to retirement. She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union and the oldest member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Scranton, and its Altar and Rosary Society. The first born child, she was the last surviving sibling. She was a hard worker, a loving and caring mother and grandmother and helpful to all her friends.
Surviving are two sons, J. Fred, with whom she had resided; and Paris, Scranton; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert; six brothers, Joseph, Alex, Bernard, Adam, Michael and John; and two sisters, Josephine Culpepper and Mamie Rutkowski.
The funeral will be Friday from the August J. Haas Funeral Home Inc., 202 Pittston Ave., with Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church. Entombment, Italian American Cemetery Mausoleum.
Friends may call Thursday, 6 to 9 p.m. A wake service will be held Thursday at 8 p.m., at which time the Altar and Rosary Society will also meet.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Fund, 630 Genet St., Scranton; or the VNA Hospice, 301 Delaware St., Olyphant.
