Clare Mary Louis, 100, of Henry, Ill. died at 2:30 a.m. Aug. 16, 2007, at St. Joseph Nursing Home, Lacon.

She was born March 16, 1907, in Putnam, Ill., to Henry and Henrietta (Seichter) Louis. She is the last of her immediate family.

She is survived by her nephew, Norbert (Marilyn) Louis of Henry; and her niece, Evelyn Smoode of Spring Valley.

Her two sisters, Martha and Hilda; her brother, Otto; and a niece, Cecilia Hartwig, preceded her in death,

Clare was a 1925 graduate of the Academy of Our Lady in Peoria. She earned her bachelor of education degree at Illinois State Normal University and her master's degree at Greeley State College, Greeley, Colo.

Her teaching career began in the Aurley Country School in Hennepin. She taught several years at Cullom Community High School and retired after 28 years at Streator High School.

She traveled extensively in the United States, Canada, Mexico, England, Ireland, Europe, Scandinavia and South America. After some 20 years, she returned to Henry in 1990.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Henry.
