Prince Aribert acted as regent of Anhalt from September to November 1918 on behalf of his underage nephew, Duke Joachim Ernst. As regent, following the German revolution, he abdicated in the name of his nephew on November 12, 1918, thus ending the rule of his family in Anhalt.
He was buried in the Ducal Mausoleum in Dessau in 1933, but in 1958 his remains were moved to a mass grave in the Friedhof Ziebigk in Dessau. His remains were removed and reinterred at the Altargruft in the Marienkirche in Dessau in 2019.
