Katherine Rebecca Barber was born July 12, 1916 in Iola, Kansas, the last of five children born to Clarence Arthur Barber, an oil industry worker and Katherine (Dewitt) Barber. She was named after her mother and maternal grandmother, Rebecca Dewitt. She attended school at Iola though the eighth grade, when he family moved to Enid, Oklahoma. She graduated from Enid High School and attended Phillips University for two years. She was working at the F.W. Woolworth Store when her sister-in-law introduced her to William "Bill" Pope. They were married March 7, 1942 in Enid, Oklahoma. They had 57 years together and were blessed with two children, one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
Bill was serving in the Army Air Force when they married and spent 39 months in North Africa and Europe before returning home in August, 1945. In 1948 they moved to Waukomis, Oklahoma where they lived for 27 years and raised their family. They moved to Enid, Oklahoma in 1975. Katherine retired from the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission in 1981. Upon their retirement Bill and Katherine moved to Osage where they enjoyed lake life. Katherine was a lifelong member of the Disciples of Christ Church and served as Deacon, Elder, Church Board Chair and many other offices.
Her favorite holidays were Thanksgiving and Christmas when all the family would gather together. Katherine had many pets over the years, dogs, cats and even a skunk! One of the favorite times of her life was attending school, she loved to learn. In 2015 Katherine was elected by her community as Ms. Cedar Ridge.
