LaRene grew up in Idaho Falls, graduated from Idaho Falls High School, and attended BYU. On November 27, 1948, she and Vern were married in Swan Valley; they made their home in Ucon, where LaRene worked as an accountant and computer librarian for EG&G at the site and the Computer Science Center. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she taught Sunday School for many years and served as a councilor in the Relief Society. She loved music and played the organ and the banjo and had a beautiful singing voice. In 1966, LaRene shot a world record Boone and Crockett elk. LaRene and Vern were members of Back Country Horsemen of Idaho and raised championship quarter horses. Survivors included: children William Lavern (Kendra) Smith of Rapid City, SD, Christine LaRene (Levor) Oldham of Spanish Fork, UT, and Kimble Colson (Jeannette) Smith of Preston, ID; siblings Mary Van Noy of St. George, UT, Robert (Janice) Colson of St. George, UT, James (Sharon) Colson of St. George, UT, Karen (Neil) Hull of Lava Hot Springs, ID, Steven (Donna) Colson of St. George, UT, and Kathleen (Bill) Egan of Arimo; and 14 grandchildren and 62 great grandchildren. Preceding was her twin sister Grace LaDene Parsons. Graveside services held April 22nd; Bishop Jim Johnson officiated.
