Ruth Mason, age 87, of Sac City, IA, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2020, at the Loring Hospital in Sac City, IA, after a recent diagnosis of lung cancer.

Ruth Leona Mason was born on March 28, 1933, to parents Herbert and Marie (Barlow) Zimmerman. She grew up in Sac City and was baptized at the Baptist Church. She attended Sac Community Schools. Ruth left school early to help raise her younger siblings after her mother passed away. On June 20, 1953, Ruth was united in marriage to James “Jim” Mason in Storm Lake, IA. Jim and Ruth enjoyed 65 years of marriage and were blessed with one son, Tom, in 1956. Together, they raised their son in Sac City where Ruth worked at the Bloomfield Egg Plant and at Noble Popcorn for many years.

Ruth was an active member of the First Christian Church in Sac City and was also part of the Church Ladies. She enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardening, canning, and cooking. Ruth also loved to cook and bake for family and friends. She belonged to several card clubs and loved to decorate at Christmas. Ruth was a member of the Loring Hospital Auxilliary. Ruth loved family gatherings and especially enjoyed time spent spoiling her grandsons, Taylor and Zachary. Ruth always had freshly baked snacks to share with any family or friends that stopped by. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Tom (Sally Jo); two grandsons: Taylor and Zachary; sister, Beulah; brothers: John (Sandy), Chuck (Joan), Earl (Karon), and Ted (Alice). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and many friends.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, in January 2019; her parents; and 12 siblings: Don, Pearl, Robert, James, Florence, Cliff, Kenny, Jack, Lois, Mary, Bill, and June.
