On June 20, 1953, Jim married Ruth Zimmerman in Storm Lake, IA. Jim and Ruth enjoyed 65 years of marriage. They were blessed with one son, Tom in 1956.
After working for Hamont Construction, Jim took a job managing the Dixon Lumber Yard in Sac City. He held that position for several years. Jim eventually became the Sac County Accessor where he was employed until his retirement in 1991.
Jim served on the Sac City Council, the Planning and Zoning Commission, and was the Chairman of the Board of Adjustments. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of the Sac City Fire Department for over 40 years, since joining in 1964. Jim was an active member of the First Christian Church in Sac City.
He loved family gatherings and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandsons. Fishing, woodworking, and gardening were among some of his favorite pastimes. Jim will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleo and Francis Mason; two brothers: Cliffton Mason and Joe Mason; and three sisters: Sally Malm, Mildred Williamson, and Gertrude Simpson.
Jim is survived by his wife, Ruth Mason of Sac City, IA; son Tom (Sally Jo) Mason of Sac City, IA; two grandsons: Taylor Mason of Sioux Falls, SD, and Zachary Mason of Des Moines, IA. He is also survived by many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
