Mrs. Wharton was born in Blacksville on March 11, 1941, a daughter of the late Ray and May Simpson Lemley.
Mrs. Wharton was a member of the Wolf Summit Wesleyan Methodist Church. She was known as grandma to everyone and loved all children and accepted each and every one of them into her home. She was a very loving and devoted grandmother to her 14 grandchildren, who were her life.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Thomas Wharton, whom she married May 25, 1968. Also surviving are four children, Rebecca McCombs, and her husband, Danny, of Smithsburg, WV, David Wharton, of Atlanta, Martha Wharton, of New Milton, WV, and Daniel Wharton, and his wife, Marlana, of Clarksburg; 14 grandchildren, Jolene America, Butch America, Jacob America, Angelia McCombs, Kyla McCombs, Jessica Pratt, Michael Pratt, Chance Wharton, Dalton McCombs, Emily McCombs, Ethan Wharton, Brendon McCombs, Shiann Wharton and Kassidy Wharton; two brothers, Denzil Lemley and Kyle Lemley, both of Daybrook; and three sisters, Lucille Calvert, of Pennsylvania, Pauline Gee, of Ohio, and Alberta Merrifield, of Daybrook.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Delbert Lemley and Arzie Burl Lemley.
Family and friends may call at the Davis Funeral Home, One Olen Thomas Drive, Rt. 98, Clarksburg, from 4-8 p.m. Monday, where funeral services will be held at 12 noon Tuesday, April 14, with the Rev. Richard Price officiating. Interment will be in the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
