DONALD V. MOXLEY, age 86, a resident of Bertrand, died Wednesday, April 1, 2020, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

He was born November 24, 1933 in rural Charleston to Ernest and Pearl Shown Moxley. A 1951 graduate of Charleston High School, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from University of Missouri/Columbia in 1955 where he was a member and served as President of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. He served in the US Army as a Second Lieutenant, then returned to Charleston where he taught school from 1965 -1969, was employed with the Department of Family Services working as child welfare caseworker and later as a caseworker with the Bureau of the Blind. Following retirement, he became a Bee Keeper and sold his product, Don Bee Honey, for several years.

Don was a member of the United Methodist Church where he taught the Upper Room Sunday School class, served on the Administrative Board, was Chairman of several committees and sang many years in the Chancel Choir. He was a member of the Charleston Lions Club, a founding member of the Bertrand Fire Department, a Board member for the Sheltered Workshop, Bootheel Counseling, and the Charleston Nutrition Center where he volunteered delivering meals for 25 years.

On August 29, 1966 he married Eleanor Switzer who survives of the home.

Also surviving are one son, David E. (Melanie) Moxley of Columbia, two daughters, Melissa (Casey) Perry of Nashville, TN and Marilyn (David) Kay of Santa Rosa, CA; two sisters, Emma Faye Laird of Lakeland, FL and Peggy Walker of Memphis, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Prince Moxley, Warren G. Moxley, Byron S. Moxley, and Fred Moxley; and two sisters. Gwen Moxley Hearnes and Margaret Moxley Farmer.

Private Graveside Services will be conducted Saturday, April 4, 2020 in the IOOF Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.  

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 351,Charleston, Missouri 63834 or to the Charleston Lions Club,PO Box 343, Charleston, Missouri 63834.  

A Memorial Service will be scheduled for a later date.
