Fred Murphy Moxley

FRED MURPHY MOXLEY, age 89, a resident of Charleston, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born October 26, 1925 in Senath to the late Ernest and Pearl Shown Moxley. He moved to Charleston in 1930 where he farmed north of Charleston for over 50 years and owned and operated Fred Moxley Seeds Company until his retirement. A veteran of WW II, he served with the US Marines from December 1943 until February 1946 in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the Life Church in Sikeston, and had served on the Charleston R-1 School Board and Texas Bend School Board, the Board of Directors of SEMO Electric for 17 years, and numerous other memberships and boards.

On November 16, 1947 he married Freida Marie Chambers who preceded him in death on January 3, 1995.

Surviving are three children, Warren G. (Mary Jane) Moxley of Garland, TX, Cindy (John) Bledsoe of Charleston, and Rodney (Jeannie) Moxley of Lincoln, NE; one brother Donald V. Moxley of Bertrand, and two sisters, Emma Laird of Lady Lake, FL and Peggy Walker of Bartlett, TN; seven grandchildren, John Robert (Tanya) Bledsoe, Jr., Jason S. (Stephanie) Bledsoe all of Charleston, Jodi (Stefan) Arndt of St. Peters, Tim Moxley of Dallas, TX, Michelle Moxley of Irving, TX, Sister Melissa Moxley of Waverly, NE, and Michael (Jennifer) Moxley of Grand Ledge, MI; and eighteen great grandchildren, John Robert Bledsoe III, David Trevor Bledsoe, Taylor Bledsoe, Samuel Bledsoe, Benjamin Bledsoe, Nicholas Bledsoe, Hannah Bledsoe, Jacob Bledsoe, Zachary Arndt, Gavin Arndt, Bodhi Burn, Kether Moxley-Compter, Mackenzie Moxley, Maya Moxley, Madison Moxley, Jonah Robert Moxley, Elijah Michael Moxley, and Jack Edward Moxley; also many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Prince Moxley, Warren G. Moxley, Byron S. Moxley; and two sisters, Gwen Hearnes and Margaret Farmer.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2015, at McMikle Funeral Home from 12:00 pm until the funeral hour at 2:00 pm. Rev. David Craig, pastor of Life Church in Sikeston, will officiate.

Interment will follow in the IOOF Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be John Robert Bledsoe, Jr., Jason S. Bledsoe, Michael Moxley, John Robert Bledsoe III, David Trevor Bledsoe, and Samuel Bledsoe.

Honorary Pallbearers will be great grandchildren.
