George Washington Freeze was born in Thurmont, Frederick County, Maryland, the son of Michael and Susanna Wetzel Freeze. On May 25, 1865, in Frederick County, Maryland, he married Savannah Elizabeth Eyler, daughter of Benjamin and Martha Rider Eyler. George and Savannah were the parents of 13 children: Martha A., William Joseph, Lewis Benjamin Franklin, James Irwin N., Charles Edward, Harvey Elmer, Commodore Perry, Erasmus Funk, Mary D. R., Robert Dodge, Daisy May, Ellen Leticia and Susan Elizabeth Freeze. In April, 1901, George Washington Freeze, being a widower already for 7 years, left Thurmont, Frederick County, Maryland, with his daughter Mary and went to Tippacanoe, Miami County, Ohio, to settle. Several of his sons had already settled in that area. He passed away on June 27, 1910, in Dayton State Hospital in Van Buren Township per death certificate signed by his son, Charles Edward Freeze of Troy, Miami County, Ohio. He was buried on the 29th in Riverside Cemetery in Troy.
