Witnesses for wedding of Ludwig and Helene were Bernard Fiker and Minnie [Wilhelmina] Adam. Helene was from Town of Pelican in Forest County, WI.

After Ludwig's death, Helene married William Messerschmidt, a widower with 5 children. Together, Helene and William had 3 more children. He then died in 1915 of complications after surgery, so Helen had to raise all of the children by herself.
Some time in the 1920s she sold the farm. The 1930 census shows her living with the Edwin Adams family in the Township of Pella. During the summer she would often stay with the Fenns in Townsend and she enjoyed going fishing and visiting with Augusta Schultz Fenn [mother-in-law of Auguste Adams Fenn]. Funeral rites were held Saturday from the Edwin Adams home to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Pella for Mrs. Helen Messerschmidt. Burial took place in the Graceland cemetery in Clintonville. Mrs. Messerschmidt was born in Manitowoc March 18, 1875, and was united in marriage to Ludwig Adams on March 26, 1895. Mr. Adams and one child preceded her in death. On March 25, 1908 she was married to William Messerschmidt who has also passed away. She is survived by 5 step children, Helen, Mrs. Martin Adams, Ella, Mrs. Edward Grothe of Clintonville; Edwin, Albert and Arthur Messerschmidt, all of Pella; the children living are Augusta, Mrs. Leonard Fenn of Townsend, Elmer in the U.S. Armed Forces, William of Pella, Martha, Mrs. Frankie Rades of Pella, Edwin Adams at home, Art Adams, Big Falls, and one brother, Otto Fiker, of Bruce, Wis.
