Mrs. M. E. Hollenbaugh, widow of B. F. Hollenbaugh, died at her residence in this place, (New Bloomfiled) just after midnight Monday from a paralytic stroke. She had been in the parlor with her daughter and several callers Sunday evening and had been in her usual cheerful mood. She left the company about 10 o'clock and went up stairs to her room. Shortly after, she called for her daughter who was about to retire, that she felt ill and needed aromatic spirits of ammonia. This was given her and her physican, Dr. E. E. Moore, was summoned and responded immediately. She was seized with extreme nausea and while retching paralysis followed, resulting in her death as above stated. Before passing into a coma she said that she was going to die.
Mrs. Hollenbaugh following the death of her husband which occured June 8, 1911, never really recovered from the shock and for years was a nervous wreck. She was apparently regaining her health when on October 6, 1917, she sustained a paralytic stroke affecting her entire right side. From this she seemed to be steadly until death suddenly claimed her. Following the death of her husband she successfully conducted his grocery business.
Mary Elizabeth Hollenbaugh, was the daughter of the late George and Mary (Bernheisel) Swartz and was born in Saville township, May 8, 1863. and at her death was aged 54 years, 9 months, and 17 days. When but six years of age with her parents and the family moved to Centre Township just west of this place, where she grew to a charming young womenhood. March 24, 1887, she was joined in wedlock with B. F. Hollenbaugh and one daughter Edna Marie, now Mrs. Henry Riegel, who made her home with her survives. There also survives the following brothers and sisters, Register and Recorder, W. F. Swartz of this place, Charles L. Swartz of Carroll Township, Mrs. Alice A. Hollenbaugh of Hummelstown; Mrs. Lottie McLachlan, of Dry Ridge, Kentucky; and Mrs. M. Brothers of Philadelphia.
In girlhood the deceased became a member of the Trinity Reformed Church, of this place and during her life was foremost in every good word and work along every line of activity in the church to which she might be called. Hers was a willing service freely and generously given and in her death the church has sustained a great loss. She was all that a tender, loving mother could be to her daughter and upon the latter the storke falls most greviously.
Bright, active, vivacious, always cheerful even in sickness, kind and considerate of all she won her a large circle of devoted freinds who truly are mourners at her bier.
Funeral services will be held at her late residence Thursday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. J. Thomas Fox, pastor of the deceased, officiating.
Pallbearers were; George E. Harris, H. B. Rhinesmith, Dr. J. L. Diven, J. T. Alter, Jas. W. McKee, H. E. Sheibley.
