The second son of Reuben and Mary Boatwright. He was baptized at Mount Zion Church at age 17. He was deputy clerk of Cumberland County. He attended Richmond College then was ordained and served Enon Church as pastor. He then attended the Theological Seminary of Greenville S.C. He served Scottsville Baptist Church. In 1861 he joined the 46th Va. Regiment and was elected chaplain. His health failing, he taught school for the balance of the War. On the 5th of Sept. 1865 he married Miss Elizabeth M. Woodruff. One of their five children was Frederic William Boatwright, president of Richmond College. The house shown was his last home. It was across Route 15 from Buckingham Baptist Church.
