My Uncle Newton Hubert Thomas was born July 25, 1920 to Labin Gilbert and Frances Lillie Mae Hodge Thomas of Crowder Springs, South of Boswell, Choctaw County, Oklahoma.


Newt was the brother of Ernest Thomas, Virgil Crittington Thomas, Albert Stanley Thomas,

Muriel Thomas Wright, and Oletha Thomas Wilson-Murphy, and Alta Mae Hodge Brownfield-Erwin.


Uncle Newt served with distinction in the US Army as a medic under General George Patton in Germany during World War II. Newt was awarded a Purple Heart & three (3) Bronze Stars. When he returned home from the war, he married Joyce L. Wyrick on June 22, 1946 in Paris, Texas. They had no children.


Uncle Newt was a precious man. He worked as a farmer & rancher after the war near his place of birth; Crowder Springs. Uncle Newt was a devout Christian and a member of the Crowder Springs Baptist Church from 1949 until it disbanded in 1971. He then moved his membership to First Baptist Church, Boswell. He served as a Deacon & Sunday School Director in both churches. Uncle Newt contracted Hepitis in WWII which caused cancer of the liver and caused his death November 25, 1995.


His grave is in Section J of the Restland Cemetery, Boswell, Oklahoma.
