Deceased Name: Kenneth (Ken) E. Ziemer
DECATUR — Kenneth (Ken) E. Ziemer, 75, of Decatur, IL went to be with the Lord on July 18, 2004 in his home. His family and friends celebrated his life by surrounding him with prayers, love, laughter, and, most of all, music. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2004 at 10:00 A.M. at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Decatur. Visitation will be on Wednesday July 21, 2004 from 6:309:00 P.M. in the Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, with a prayer service being held at 6:00 P.M. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard.

Ken was born on May 8, 1929, in Decatur, Ill. His family and friends affectionately called him 'Butter,' and associates with the electrical trade, and the coffee shop, called him 'Jeep.' He received his diploma from Decatur High School after serving his country in the United States Army in 1949, and he married Catherine M. Fratini on June 13, 1953. He served in the U.S. Army from May 1946 to February 1949 in Italy and Germany, and from October 1950 to August 1951 in Korea. He was a member of the Korean War Veterans Association, and presently has a grandson serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, stationed in Iraq.
Ken joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in December 1951 and graduated from the apprenticeship program in September 1955. He owned and operated Ziemer Electric from 1970 to 1985, and retired in 1991, remaining active in the union for over 50 years.
Ken was a former member of St Patrick's Church for 33 years, a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church for 13 years, and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 577.He loved music, and wanted to pass that love on to his children. He also loved to sing and dance. Ken was an avid model railroad fan for many years, and modeled many different types of trains, but the Wabash Railroad was his favorite.Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Catherine; sons Milo Ziemer and wife Cindy of Decatur, IL, Karl Ziemer and wife Cami of Decatur, IL, Daniel Ziemer and wife Gay of Villa Grove, IL; daughters Cay Lilly of Monticello, IL, and Nancy Dudley and husband Eric of Decatur, IL; brothers Stanley Ziemer and wife Lucille of Peachtree City, GA, Robert Ziemer and wife Mary Joanne of Decatur, IL; sisters Wanda Tracy of Austin, TX, Gloria Vyhnalek and husband John of Lake View Terrace, CA, and Nancy Waddell of Forsyth, IL; 12 grandchildren, three great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ken's family wishes to thank Dr. Wade, the nurses and staff on the 4th floor of DMH, and especially DMH Hospice for their care and compassion during his illness. Words are not enough to express our gratitude to all the people who cared for him.
