Obituary of William "Tim" T. Dugan
William Thomas “Tim” Dugan, 73, of Lexington, SC passed away surrounded by his family on January 2, 2020. Born September 7, 1946 in Hickory, NC. He was the son of the late Wilford T. and Annie Mae Dugan of Lexington.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart, wife of nearly 51 years and shag partner for life, Glenda Schwartz Dugan; daughter, Gwen Dugan Morris; son-in-law, Zane Morris, Sherry Dugan Keel; son, William “Billy” Dugan; daughter-in-law, Abby Wise Dugan; grandchildren, Samantha, Taylor and Tyler Keel, Savannah and Chloe Morris, Jake and Karl Dugan; brothers, Wilford T., Jr. and Jackie Dugan, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; siblings, Dorothy (Dot), Karl, Earl, Doris (Janie) and beloved fur baby, Annie.
He grew up in Red Bank playing pool and baseball. In 1964, he was the pitcher for Lexington High School’s first State Championship Baseball Team and known for his roundhouse curve ball. Off the mound, he was known for his pool shooting skills and would run the table on you, if given the chance. He continued playing throughout his life, winning pool tournaments locally and abroad. While at LHS, he learned his life skill, became a Master Electrician, and founded Dugan Electric, Inc. in 1983, which continues to thrive today. He served his country for 23 years and retired from the SC Army National Guard 751st Maintenance Division. A member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, he previously served on Church Council, usher and other various duties. He was a Master Mason with the Lexington Lodge, Shriner at Jamil Temple, and American Legion Post #7.
Family was the most important to him and he supported his three children and grandchildren in all their activities. A former Lexington County Arts Association member during the George Boozer Era, he worked on props, lighting design and performed on stage with his family. Those shows led him to performing in Charleston’s Piccolo Spoleto and Washington, DC. Later, he went on to serve with the LHS Band Booster Club chaperoning and feeding hundreds of band students from 1985 to 1994. He also performed with the original Carolina Country Cloggers throughout the southeast.
On Saturdays, during the fall, you could find him cheering on his beloved Carolina Gamecocks. Win or lose, he remained an avid supporter and a member of the Gamecock Club.
He had a heart of gold, infectious smile and personality that earned him “Funniest” at LHS and that continued throughout his life. On one of many of his travels, he somehow convinced the Mexican Navy to respond to him when he passed by asking how they were doing. Often, he would say once he was gone, we should know he always had a good time and that was the truth. He never met a stranger and we are all blessed to have known him. So, in the infamous words of Tim himself, “Wind it up, Baby!” Heaven has gained a very special angel and the sun will always shine a little brighter.
