Funeral services for Doris Jane Rikard, 74, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel.
Mrs. Rikard was born September 2, 1944 in Hickory, NC, and passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2018. She was a daughter of the late William T. and Annie Mae Johnson Dugan. Mrs. Rikard is survived by her husband, Charles David Rikard and others.
Doris was a very outgoing free spirit that never met a stranger. During her lifetime she always put others first and a smile on everyone else's face. She spent many years of her life working for Publix and serving the church at Zion Lutheran. She filled her post retirement days chasing trains with her husband of 53 years, working out in the garden, shagging the night away, and cooking meals for the family. Doris found the most joy spending time with her three grandchildren, watching them play sports, having TV marathons, playing card games all day long and being way too prideful to be known as Grandma. They called her Memaw.
After spending nearly five years fighting Alzheimer's, Doris is now at peace with her Lord and Savior and will continue to be with us in our hearts watching over us every day.
