Obituary for Sandra Kay Brewster Sadler Hunt

Sandra Kay Brewster Sadler Hunt, of Little Rock passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2016. Kay was preceded in death by her son, Richard M. Sadler of North Little Rock, and both parents, R.W. Brewster of McCarley, MS and Sue Brewster of Little Rock. She is survived by her husband, Jimmy B. Hunt of Little Rock; son, W.E. “Trey” Sadler III, of Alexander; grandsons, Nathan Burns and Jay Michael Sadler; siblings, Linda Ivey (Jim) of Owensboro, KY, Richard Brewster (Becky) of Bryant, Sherry Shaw and Mike Brewster of Little Rock, and Carol Campbell (Danny) of Calico Rock; and a host nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She adored her husband, son, grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews. Kay took care of everyone and was always there if you needed her. We always said “she has a heart as big as the world”.

Kay was a wonderful cook and everyone enjoyed her delicious home cooking – nothing fancy but always wholesome, heart-warming and belly-filling. She loved to home can and we all loved to eat her pickles, chow-chow, and pickled -okra.

Kay’s professional life began as a psychiatric nurse at Arkansas State Hospital. Kay always formed meaningful, mutually respectful connections with doctors, fellow nurses, other staff, and her patients. Kay made everyone feel important. She left nursing in 1985 to start a successful career covering the next several years with AFLAC. Kay won numerous awards, all stemming from her core personality of caring and connecting with people. She then redirected her compassionate instincts towards a career as a caregiver. First at ARCHILD, taking care of special needs infants. She then moved into home-based elder care. The people she cared for considered her a member of their family.

Some of the things she loved most were holidays, family gatherings, volunteering for church activities, and farmers market. She was very crafty and enjoyed the art of ceramics. A lot of us still have pieces of the ceramics she made.

Kay appreciated all genres of music from Rock n Roll to old time Gospel. She was a great dancer and loved to party and socialize. We have so many fun memories of Kay from camping, to penny-ante poker, to visiting Oaklawn in Hot Springs’ and the Tunica casinos. Whenever Kay was around, there was fun and laughter.

Kay fought a brave battle before succumbing to back surgery complications. She stayed positive despite one setback after another. She is loved so very much and will be missed dearly.

Services will be Friday, August 5 at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Forest United Methodist Church, 2415 Fair Park Blvd, Little Rock. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to Oak Forest UMC, or a charity of your choosing.

Arrangements by Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct., (501)224-2200. Kay’s online guestbook may be signed at www.littlerockfuneralhome.com.
