BOONEVILLE

Nellie Ruth Murphy Thornton, 70, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, at her home after a long illness. She was a homemaker and a member of Fairview Baptist Church, where she served as church clerk for 15 years.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Fairview Baptist Church with Bro. Pete McCoy and Bro. Mark McCoy officiating. Burial will be in the Booneville Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, P.D. Thorton, whom she married May 2, 1980; a daughter, Shelia Diane Murphy Reeves and husband, Bobby Gene, of Booneville; a son, Richard Duane Murphy and wife, Teresa, of Booneville; a daughter-in-law, Diane Cutberth Murphy of Booneville; two step-daughters, Vicki Cole and husband, Richard, and Marsha Grisham and husband, Jeff, all of Booneville; two sisters, Martha "Polly" Robinson, and Betty Sue Turvaville and husband, Trenton, all of Booneville; two brothers, Milton Bishop and wife, Carolyn, and Gene Bishop and wife, Geneva, all of Rienzi; eight grandsons, Chris, Rodney, Philip, and Andrew Murphy, Dee Reeves, and Jered, Chris and Nicholas Grisham; five granddaughters, Alicia Cole, Emily Ball, Jessica Shook, Vanessa Murphy and Angela Coggins; seven great-grandchildren, Trevor and Kinsley Murphy, Sebastian, Chandler and Jocelyn Ball, Eason Shook, Enjolique Grisham and Aubrey Coggins.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, A.V. Murphy Jr.; her parents, Jack and Rachel Bishop; a son, Nelson A.V. Murphy; two sisters, Inez Williams and Hazel Isbell; three brothers, Aaron, George and Vick Bishop; two sisters-in-law, Vera Bishop and Joyce Bishop; and three brothers-in-law, Clyde Isbell, Lewis Williams and L.W. Robinson.

Visitation will continue until 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church from noon to service time Saturday.
