Obituary for Mr. Robert David Sweeney
Robert David Sweeney, 80, a resident of Columbus, passed from this life at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, December 25, 2019 at Hickory Creek at Columbus.
Mr. Sweeney was born August 10, 1939, in Columbus, Indiana, the son of Samuel W. and Eileen Koons Sweeney.
Mr. Sweeney retired from Cummins Engine Company after 36 years of service.
He attended First Baptist Church in North Vernon. A car enthusiast, Mr. Sweeney enjoyed classic and muscle cars and he cherished his 1985 El Camino and 1988 Monte Carlo. Mr. Sweeney always enjoyed the warm days of spring and summer; however, he did not care so much for the Indiana winters. He also enjoyed watching professional wrestling on television.
Mr. Sweeney is survived by his children, Sherry A. (Perry) Moore of Columbus and Mark A. Sweeney of Columbus; granddaughters, Jordan Heath of Flat Rock and Jensen Heath of Noblesville; and great-grandchildren, Amirah, Derrion, Ari, Adrean and Anthony.
Mr. Sweeney was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Eileen Sweeney and his sister and brother-in-law, Betty Lou and Broten Martin.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, December 30, 2019 at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street; Pastor Larry Coon will officiate.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday.
Mr. Sweeney will be laid to rest at Daugherty Cemetery.
