Our loving mother peacefully passed from this world on December 19, 2019 at the age of 93 years old. Mother was born in Lake Point, Utah on May 31, 1926, the fourth of five children born to Owen Houtz and Blanche Davies Cluff. She grew up on her parent’s farm in Lake Point, Utah and graduated from Tooele High School. She later attended Utah State University. She married Nick Constantine Melis on December 30, 1950 and they moved to Salt Lake City. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and her greatest joy was being with family. She is survived by her three children, Bradford Con Melis, Pamela Sue Isemann, and Brent Cluff Melis. Mom dearly loved and was so proud of her five grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren and was delighted whenever a new baby arrived. Mom was a fabulous cook, enjoyed bowling, and was an avid golfer. Upon her retirement from Northwest Pipeline in 1996 she enjoyed traveling and taking cruises with family and friends. Mom was a lifelong devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a member of the Parleys 5th Ward where she answered several callings to serve, the longest being 20 years or more as First Counselor of the Singles Group. She was preceded in death by her beloved siblings, her brother Owen LaVelle Cluff, sisters; Eleanor Blanche Monsen, Afton Elizabeth Harrop, and La Rue Miklovik. One of the things we personally love about Mom’s brother and sisters is how close they were and how much they all loved each other. Mom was also blessed with many nephews and nieces who were very kind to her throughout her life, and would visit her at the care facility, Hunter Hollow, which brought her great joy in her final years. We are so grateful to the many people in Mom’s life including family and friends who loved her and blessed her in many ways throughout her life.

In closing I would like to share the words of our precious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ from John 14:1-6: “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God: believe also in Me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself that where I am you may be also.” Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

Goodbye Mom, we love you and will miss you dearly until we see you again.

A memorial service for Mom will be held on Friday, December 27th at Tate Mortuary in Tooele, 110 S. Main St. at 11:00 am, with a viewing prior from 9:30 to 10:45 am. Following the service, she will be laid to rest next to her beloved parents at Tooele Cemetery
