W. T. Hartness, 83, Confederate Veteran Meets Tragic Death on Crossing

YORK Oct 12 - William Thomas Hartness, 83, Confederate veteran of western York county was struck and killed on a Southern railway grade crossing in Sharon early today.
He had been to the post office for his mail and was walking across the track at Hill's crossing near his home when the accident occurred, death was almost instant.
The funeral and interment will take place at Sharon tomorrow.
Surviving are the following children: John S. Hartness, cashier of the Bank of Sharon, W. R. Hartness, Mooresville, N. C., Mrs. Amanda Harper, Charlotte: Mrs. W. R. Hambright and Mrs. James Hardin, Grover, N. C. and Miss Eliza Hartness, Sharon.

Southern Train Kills Confederate Veteran at Sharon Crossing
YORK, S. C. Oct 12. (AP) William Thomas Hartness, Confederate veteran, aged 84, was killed today on a grade crossing at Sharon, seven miles west of this place, when struck by a westbound Southern Railway passenger train. He had been to the postoffice and was returning home. Death was almost instantaneous. He is survived by two sons and four daughters.
