J.D. Collins, Sr., age 86, of Vidalia, died Saturday, December 7, 2019 at his home, after an extended illness. He was a native of Toombs County and was a 1952 graduate of Lyons High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War Era. J.D. retired in 1994 from BellSouth after thirty-eight years and since the 1950’s, was a member of the Smith Street Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon and taught the Alby Gay Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by his first wife Betty Gross Collins; son Darrell Collins; parents Elza Collins and Maggie Lee Bradham Collins; a sister Lillian Shaw; and two brothers Elton Collins and Richard J. Collins.

Mr. Collins is survived by his wife Betty Harden Collins of Vidalia; five children Joseph David Collins, Jr. and wife Nellie of Grand Prairie, Texas, Dean Collins and wife Sherri of Vidalia, Janice Wilson and husband Tommy of Hazlehurst, Diana Lane and husband Steve of Baxley, and Vicki Ricketson and husband J.L. of Baxley; one sister Mary Frances Wright of Lyons; two brothers Ernest Collins and Johnny Collins, both of Lyons; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 10th at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Roger Daniels and Pastor Chester Proctor officiating. Burial will follow in the Collins Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Lyons.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday afternoon from 1:30 until just prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Smith Street Baptist Church, 501 Smith St., Vidalia, GA 30474.
