Beatrice was adopted and raised by her aunt, Sarah Ann (Clark) Kidder and her husband John Flint Kidder. (Beatrice would use the maiden name "Kidder.") Sarah (Clark) Kidder was the sister of Beatrice's father, Joel Jasper Clark. Beatrice lived with her adoptive parents (aunt and uncle) until she was married the first time to Howard R. Ward in September 1905 in Grass Valley, Nevada County, California. Howard and Beatrice were divorced between 1917 and 1920 and by 1920, Beatrice went to live with her biological mother, Frances Angeline (Smith) Hughes Clark Stevens Black, in American Falls, Power, Idaho. She ended up marrying Frances' stepson, Roland Black on August 24, 1920. Beatrice then lived with her husband, Roland Black, and her biological mother, Frances, in 1930 in Salinas, Monterey, California.
(Also, California Death Index lists her birth date as October 5, 1885, however, the date of September 6, 1884 was given on her Social Security index while she was still alive, so may be more likely to be her correct birth date.)
