Violet Ruby Ratzlaff was born on January 23, 1936 to Henry J. and Anna (Janzen) Ratzlaff, the youngest of 9 children, in Henderson, NE. She was called home to her forever home at the age of 83 on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at Henderson.
Violet was baptized into Bethesda Mennonite Church on June 6, 1954 by the Reverend Arnold T. Nickel and graduated from Henderson High School. Violet lived and cared for her parents for most of their lives.
During her working years she worked as a waitress at The Dutch Kitchen, as a photography assistant at Cliff's in Aurora, and as a dietary aid in the kitchen at the Henderson Hospital. Violet enjoyed volunteering at the church folding bulletins.
Violet enjoyed traveling in her younger years, visiting 32 states of the Union and 10 foreign countries going ¾ of the way around the world, collecting souvenir spoons with good friend Linda Kroeker. Violet considered this her college education.
Violet did lots of embroidery. She made quilt tops for each of her nieces and nephews when they got married, and many others also.
In 1992, Violet was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. When finishing chemotherapy in 1993, she was feeling fluish and ended up having emergency surgery for a blockage brought on by adhesions, then a hernia repair in June of 1993. Then the anemia was found due to iron deficiency, and then in 2001, celiac spurs. Violet attended morning coffee with many wonderful friends who listened to her problems and supported her.
Violet is survived by her sisters Alvina (LG) DaVolt and Leanna (Levi) Peters and sister-in-law Jeanne Ratzlaff, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Malita (Harry) Friesen, Elva (Sam) Quiring, Zella (Arley) Huebert, and infant sister Elfrieda Ratzlaff, brothers: Marvin (Edna) Ratzlaff and Leon Ratzlaff, and nephews: Weston Friesen, Bryan Ratzlaff, Kevin Huebert and Roy Friesen.
Graveside services will be held at 9:15 am, Friday, November 22, 2019 at Bethesda Cemetery, Henderson. A memorial service will follow the burial at 10:00 am at Bethesda Mennonite Church, Henderson. Violet has been cremated, no viewing or visitation.
