Wilbur G. Brown

WAYNESBORO – Wilbur G. "Brownie" Brown, 67, 13370 Welty Road, died at 3:37 a.m. Sunday, January 24, 1993, in Waynesboro Hospital.

He was in failing health for several months.

Born January 26, 1925, at Roadside in Washington Township, he was the son of the late Anges G. and Ruth Kipe Brown. He spent most of his life in the Waynesboro area.

He earned his General Educational Development (GED) diploma while in the service.

A. U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II in Europe. He received the Purple Heart; three bronze stars and various other medals.

Following his discharge from military service he owned and operated the Market Basket, East Main Street, for a number of years. Prior to his retirement, he served 25 years in the Postal Service as a rural mail carrier in the Waynesboro area.

He and his wife, Bernice Miller Brown, were married May 24, 1959, and lived at the Welty Road residence since 1969.

A member of Waynesboro Presbyterian Church, he also was a member of Joe Stickell Post 15 American Legion, William Max McLaughlin Post 695 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Eagles Inc., and Order of the Owls Nest 1073.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Kathryn R. of Waynesboro; three sons, Stephen L. and Kevin R., both of Waynesboro; and W. Edmond of Cibolo, Texas; 11 grandchildren; three sisters, Charlotte M. Stouffer, Frances R. Stitely, both of Waynesboro, and Evelyn C. West of Boiling Springs; a brother, Sterling L. of Waynesboro; and nieces and nephews.

Service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Waynesboro Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Charles B. Jessen will officiate.

Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Grove Funeral Home.
