Mrs. Sadie E. Wirey dies at Co. hospital

FRANKLIN – Mrs. Sadie Elizabeth Wirey, 88, died at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Johnson County Hospital. She had been in failing health for one month and seriously ill for 48 hours.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Vandivier-Parsley Funeral Home. Friends may call at any time. Officiating for the services will be the Rev. William Valentine of Grace Methodist Church, assisted by Dr. Robert Baldridge of Lawrence. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery at Edinburg.

Mrs. Wirey was born September 17, 1878 in Brown County, the daughter of Matthew and Rebecca Ann Poe Coy. She was the last member of her family that consisted of one girl and six boys. Her education was received in Brown County schools.

On February 12, 1898, she was married at Nashville, Ind., to L.A. Wirey who survives. For the last 20 years they had lived in Shelby County, but prior to that time had lived in Johnson County for 50 years.

Mrs. Wirey was a member of Grace Methodist Church and was very active in all church affairs as long as her health permitted.

Surviving with the husband are three sons: Rev. Carl O. Wirey of Auburn, Ind.; Wayne A. Wirey of New Albany; Dallas O. Wirey of Franklin; one daughter, Mrs. Herbert Sophia Beaman of Franklin; five grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. An infant daughter, Alta Marie preceded her in death.

SADIE WIREY RITES TO BE HELD TUESDAY

Funeral services for Mrs. Sadie Elizabeth Wirey will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Vandivier Parsley Funeral Home with the Rev. William Valentine, of the Grace Methodist Church, assisted by Dr. Robert Baldridge, of Lawrence, in charge of the service. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery.

Friends may call anytime at the funeral home.

Mrs. Wirey died Saturday morning at the Johnson County Memorial Hospital where she had been seriously ill for 48 hours. She had been ill for a month.

Born Sept. 17, 1878, in Brown County, she was the daughter of Matthew and Rebecca Ann Poe Coy.

She married L. A. Wirey Feb. 12, 1898 in Nashville.
