Jan V McKee

Jan V McKee, age 86, passed away October 23, 2019 at his home in Bountiful, Utah. He was born October 12, 1933 in Holden, Utah to Vorda and Nettie Hunter McKee, the youngest of nine children. After his mother died in 1947 when he was 13, he continued to help with the family businesses including a small store in the front of their home, a movie theater next door, and a vegetable farm southeast of town. Jan attended Millard High School and was an excellent athlete in football and track.
After attending the University of Utah and Branch Agricultural College (now SUU) for half a year, Jan began his career as an asbestos worker in 1951. He worked throughout the west including Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Montana. After his time in the military, Jan continued his career as an asbestos worker, serving as the local Union President for 17 years.
Jan served in the Army from 1953 to 1955, going through Basic Training at Fort Ord, California before being transferred to the DMZ in Korea with the 25th Division. After enduring “the coldest winter” he had ever known, he served in Hawaii, walking Waikiki Beach before the profusion of hotels and resorts.
Jan married Koye Stevens, also of Holden, on September 28, 1956 in the Logan Utah Temple. She was the daughter of Margaret Geneal Works and Grant Seeley Stevens. They moved to Salt Lake City and then to Bountiful in 1959. Koye passed away March 4, 1983.
Jan met Carol Ball and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple February 18, 1984. After Jan retired, they served in the Salt Lake Temple. Jan served until June 23, 2012.
Jan enjoyed the mountains, driving through them or backpacking in the back country with his son, Kendall. They hiked to the top of King’s Peak when he was 61. He was an avid fisherman and learned how to tie his own flies.
Jan is survived by his wife, Carol Ball McKee, Bountiful; children Stacy (Chad) Mitchell, Scotts Valley, CA; Tamera McEaneney, Scotts Valley, CA; Kendall McKee, St. George, UT; stepson Gary (Gail) Bountiful, UT; stepdaughter Andrea Dennis; 13 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; all his siblings; Roma McKee Turner, Chad McKee, Bly McKee Nixon, Lola McKee Stevens, Voris McKee Bennion, Doreen McKee Ashby, Riley McKee, Lex McKee; wife Koye Stevens McKee;step-daughter Heather Dennis Moyes; son-in-law James Paul McEaneney; grandchildren Kjersti Mitchell and Marilee McEaneney.
Funeral services will be October 26, 2019 at 10:00 am in the Bountiful 20th Ward chapel, 102 East 1400 South, Bountiful, Utah, 84010. Viewings, Friday 5:30-7:00, Saturday 9:00-9:45 both at the church. Interment will be at 3:00 p.m. in the Holden Town Cemetery under the care of Rasmussen Mortuary.
