Bly McKee Nixon, age 98, passed away peaceably at her home in Holden on Friday, May 5, 2017. She felt it a wonderful blessing to be able to stay in her comfortable surroundings while enjoying her family and friends close by.
Born September 16, 1918 in Holden to Vorda and Nettie Hunter McKee, Bly was the third of nine children. She learned to love work as a young child helping with the family farm and also how to have fun while doing it. She was a graduate of Millard High School and the seminary program.
She married Cecil C. Nixon on September 2, 1938. The marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple. They have four children: Glade (Merlene) Nixon of Salt Lake City, Carl (Peggy) Nixon of Nibley, Joan (Bruce) Ashby of Bountiful, and Barry (Linda) Nixon of Holden. Her posterity includes nineteen grandchildren, fifty-nine great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Bly was active in the community her whole life. She has served as a longtime member of the Pink Ladies, DUP, and various other organizations. She took on the task of serving as committee chairperson for organizing and restoring Holden’s Heritage Bell, which still stands by the Holden Church today.
Bly was also a devout and faithful member of the LDS Church and served in all the various auxiliaries, both on a ward and stake level. She served a mission with her husband in the South Dakota Rapid City Mission. Up until a few years ago, she was a faithful ordinance worker in the Manti Temple. She often called this her second family. She loved the temple and serving her Heavenly Father in this way.
Bly never let her age keep her down, and she was always busy with something. She was an avid walker and would usually walk 3-4 miles a day. She loved to work in her yard and had beautiful roses that were admired by many. Her family has beautiful crocheted doilies, quilts, and handiwork to remember her by. She enjoyed any kind of sporting activity, recital, program, etc. and gave her support to her family whenever she could. She liked to keep up with what was going on in their lives.
She was a gifted writer, filling many notebooks with her life history, as well as poems, programs, and stories to share with others. She loved to read many different kinds of books and had an excellent memory even up until a few days before she passed away.
She endured faithfully to the end, and her testimony never wavered in her love for the Savior and the great plan of salvation. She is a great example of service, faith, perseverance, gratitude, and love. She will be greatly missed by her loved ones and many friends, young and old.
The family would like to thank the members of Hospice for their friendship, love, and care shown to Mom the past several months. She truly loved them and always looked forward to their visits.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Holden Ward Chapel, 100 East 100 North, with a viewing prior from 9:30-10:30 a.m. There will also be a viewing held on Friday, May 12, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Holden Town Hall, 183 South Main Street, Holden.
