Samuel William Locklin - Son of Samuel "William" Locklin Sr and Agniss/Nancy Stevenson/Stinson. Through research Agniss was pronounced in Colonial times without the "hard g" and was a short or nickname for Nancy. Stevenson was also interchanged in pronunciation for Stinson. As you follow this family tree, you will see where Stinson is given as a first name to a Locklin descendant, as this was a common practice to pass on the maiden name of the mother or grandmother to a male child as a first given name.
Note: William Locklen[sic] and Agniss Stevenson married, 9 Jan 1769 in Rowan County, NC. It is believed that William Locklen was Samuel William Lachlan, born 25 May 1744 at Newton-Upon-Ary, Scotland, a son of William Lachland and Jane Cook(e).
Samuel was a brother of Nancy, Martha "Patsy", William Lawrence and John Locklin. Nancy married, 14 April 1800 in Columbia Co., GA, Joseph Douglas(s). No further is known, at this time, about Nancy and Joseph. John Locklin is said to have never married and was killed at the Battle of New Orleans, but I have not found such record to confirm. Martha Locklin married, 7 Dec 1792 in Columbia Co., GA, John Griffeth. After the death of John Griffeith, Martha married James S. Jarrell. William Lawrence Locklin married, 31 May 1798 in Columbia Co., GA, Mary Foster.
Samuel married, 24 Dec 1797 in Warren Co., GA, Celia Zachry, a daughter of John R Zachry and Sarah Hay.
Father of Nancy Ann, James Zachry Sr, William Lawson Sr, Samuel G, Celia E, Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" and Alfred M Locklin.
Grandson of William Lachland and Jane Cook of Scotland.
Samuel died in Walton Co., GA.
