AUGUST 25, 1927 ~ OCTOBER 14, 2019 (AGE 92)

Alex R. Shupe (SFC Retired), 92, Mt. Carmel, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 14, 2019. Born in the Mabe Community of Scott County, VA, he proudly served his country in the Army for 22 years. During his years of service he was on tours of duty in Iceland, twice to Germany and twice to Vietnam. He was a member of the 101th Airborne at Ft. Campbell, KY.

After retiring he made his home in the Clarksville, TN Ft. Campbell, KY area, moving to Kingsport in 1990, then making his home in Mt. Carmel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Allie (Stewart) Shupe; son, Darrell Shupe; grandson, Little Darrell Shupe; brothers, J.M. and Luther Ray Shupe; and sisters, Jeanette Darnell, Martha Etta Peters, Lois McDavid, Mildred McDavid, Hilda Arnold and Lucy Barnette.

Alex is survived by his wife, Linda (Lambert) Shupe; sons, Butch Shupe of Kingsport, and Robbie Shupe and wife, Tina of Bristol, VA; daughters, Fay Davie and husband, Bill of Clarksville, TN, Trudy Thompson of Mt. Carmel, Lisa Gibson and Chris Tincher of Kingsport, and Lorrie Smith of Mt. Carmel; daughter-in-law, Debbie Shupe of Pace, FL; brother, John Henry and Carman Shupe of Duffield, VA; grandchildren, Charlotte Vanderpool, Joseph Shupe, Chasity Shupe, Jason Shupe, Rebecca Davie, Tabatha Thomspon, Jennifer Gordon, Christine Long, Brittany McGowan, Brandon Oliver, Christopher Shupe, C.J. Shupe, Shaun Arnold, Lacey Sims, Blake Wilson, and Chaysen Hawkins; 32 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 pm on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 with Bro. Terry Browder officiating. The graveside service will be held on Thursday at 12:00 pm at Cox Family Cemetery in Nicklesville, VA. Military Rites will be conducted by American Legion Posts 3/265.
