Lucy Etta (Shupe) Redman Barnette

KINGSPORT — Lucy Barnette, 73, of Kingsport, passed away Monday (Feb. 13, 2012).

Born in Mabe, Va., on July 8, 1938, Mrs. Barnette attended New Beginning Baptist Church in Carter's Valley. She was a homemaker and enjoyed her family, cooking, canning and gardening. She was deeply loved by her family and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther Shupe and Alley Stewart Shupe; husband, Owen Barnette; daughter, Kathleen Redman; sons, Bobby Ray Redman and George Lee Redman; sisters, Jeanette Flanary, Martha Peters, Lois McDavid and Mildred McDavid; brothers, Luther Ray Shupe and J. M. Shupe; several nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her daughters, Polly Ann Vaughn and husband, Mike, Kingsport, and Laura Faye Boggs and husband, James, Hiltons, Va.; sons, Billy Joe Shupe and wife, Barbara, Hiltons, Va., Darrell Redman, Kingsport, and David Redman, Kingsport; grandchildren, Frank Vaughn, Liza Derrick, Heather Hurd, Clifton Kern, Joel Shupe, Bobby Joe Redman, Lucy Marie Redman and Adam Eugene Redman; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Hilda Arnold, Kingsport; brothers, Alex Shupe and wife, Linda, Church Hill, Tenn., and John Henry Shupe and wife, Carman, Duffield, Va.; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Corey Hilton and Georgia Ely.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., and anytime at the residence of her son, Billy Joe and Barbara Shupe, Hiltons, Va.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lonnie Townsend officiating. Music will be provided by Donna Hicks. Interment will follow in the Cox Chapel Cemetery, Mabe, Va. Pallbearers will be grandchildren and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Clifton Kern and Adam Redman.

Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., is in charge of arrangements.
