She was the daughter of Joseph A. Shepherd and Minnie Mackey Shepherd.
Per the 1930 Census for Fannin County, Texas, she married at age 17 to George W. Sitz for a marriage year about 1927.
They were the parents of four children.
In 1946, she married Robert O. Hindman.
They were the parents of two children.

Myrtle L. Hindman, 85, of Paris died at 8:10AM Thursday, January 4, 1996, at McCuistion Regional Medical Center. Services were held at 10AM Saturday, January 6, in Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Blackshear and Dr. Pat Otwell officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery in Honey Grove. Mrs. Hindman was born December 29, 1910, in Maben, Mississippi, a daughter of Joseph A. and Elizabeth Shepherd. She was a member of Graham Street Baptist Church and was a retired cook having worked in school lunchrooms and at Reeves Cafe.

Her first husband, George W. Sitz, died in 1934. She married Robert O. Hindman in 1946. He preceded her in death in March 1964. She was also preceded in death by two children, Glynn Hindman and Linda Boehme and by one grandchild. Survivors are a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Billy Smith of Powderly; three sons and daughters-in-law, Eldon and Yvonne Sitz of Paris, Andy and Betty Sitz and Charles and Cloyce Sitz, all of Hinkley; six stepchildren, Robert Hindman, Woodrow Hindman, Henrietta Jackson and Margie Walker, all of Paris, Odis Hindman of Hopewell and Bobbie Simpson of Corpus Christi; a brother, Woodrow Shepherd of Honey Grove; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
