Leah Rose Van Houtin, 103, passed away on Friday, August 13, 2021..
She was born on June 18, 1918 to Wayne Strole and Wilma Richardson Strole of New Goshen, Indiana. She was a graduate of the former Fayette High School and attended the former Terre Haute Commercial College. She married Hugh Van Houtin on June 18, 1938; they enjoyed 69 years of married bliss.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Van Houtin on September 26, 2007, a daughter, Sharon Meadlo, a grandson, Darrell Bozarth, two great-granddaughters, Tara Lynn Meadlo and Autumn Lee Meadlo, two sisters and eight brothers.
Surviving are a daughter, Kay Bozarth (Dale Bozarth), a son-in-law Larry Meadlo, grandsons, Tony Meadlo, Tim Meadlo (Leanne), Terry Meadlo and Eric Bozarth. Also surviving are great-granddaughters Tiffany Greig, Lacie Audi, Cassie Bozarth, Trista Ristau, Taylor White, Cheyanne Meadlo and eleven great-great-grandchildren, as well as two sisters, Doris Flowers and Charity Evinger.
She was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 428 at West Terre Haute and Indiana Farm Bureau.
She worked on the farm right alongside her husband, Hugh, until she went to work for Sycamore Insurance Agency in 1961 where she remained until the age of 82. She loved her work and her Sycamore Insurance Agency family. She was well-known in the community for her pies, mainly her coconut cream.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the New Goshen Volunteer Fire Department or Hospice of the Wabash Valley.
Funeral services will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N 3rd St, West Terre Haute, IN on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Chris Wilbur and Pastor Kathy Rousch officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled for Monday, August 16, 2021 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
