Funeral services were held for Harry W. Strayer, 93, on Thursday, November 30th at 11 a.m. in the First Methodist Church of Wagner. Rev Jay Funk officiated.
Music was provided by Mark Meyers, vocalist and Carol Stedronsky, organist.
Harry Wilbur Strayer was born January 20, 1874 to Rosa Leinbaugh and Perry Strayer in Clinton County, Iowa. The family moved to Kingsley, Iowa where he grew to manhood. He was the oldest of 5 children.
He was united in marriage to Lottie Amber Rhodes on March 11, 1903. To this union one son, Weir LaVerne, was born.
In 1904 he moved his young wife and son to South Dakota. They farmed northwest of Wagner until 1906 when he purchased the present home site.
He was in failing health the last year and passed away at the Community Hospital November 28th after a short illness.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1943 and his son in 1953. Two brothers and one sister also preceded him in death.
He leaves to mourn his passing one sister, Mrs. Leatha May Curry of Lake City, Iowa and four grandchildren, Mrs. Amber Ann Fitzgerald, Metamora, IL; Mrs. Pat Harrington, Wagner; Mrs. Betty Athinson, Coon Rapids, Minn.; Jack Strayer, Wichita Falls, Texas; and nine great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Bud Bromert, Wilbur Hall, Emanuel Havranek, Bill Bromert, Ed Denker, and Joe Slaba.
Burial was in the Wagner Cemetery. Crosby Funeral Home directed the service.
