The body of Jerry Gilbert, Greenville resident, whose death occurred in the government hospital at Johnson City, Tenn., at l o'clock Wednesday afternoon, arrived in this city at 7 o'clock this morning, when the funeral service will be held, conducted by the Rev. J. M. Trogdon, following which the interment will be made in the family plot in the Mountain Creek Church cemetery.
The following nephews of Mr. Gilbert will serve as the pallbearers, Monroe Ward, James Ward, Hilliard Bryson, Fred Gilbert, Maurice Girardeau, Haud Girardeau, and Delmer Scott.
Mr. Gilbert was 39 years of age, and was never married. During his active years, he engaged in farming. He was a World War Veteran and shortly after enlistment reported for training for infantry service at Camp Jackson, Columbia, but was never sent overseas. He had been in ill health since that time, and two years ago, he was admitted as a patient in the United States Government hospital at Johnson City, where he remained under treatment for nine months. He reentered the hospital three weeks ago and his death occurred on Wednesday. Mr. Gilbert was well known to a wide circle of friends, and had a wide family connection, to all of whom the news of his death caused sadness.
He is survived by three brothers: John T. Gilbert, M. H. Gilbert and Montieth Gilbert, all of this city, and by the following sisters: Mrs. Ailer Girardeau, Mrs. Jezzie Scott, Mrs. Letha Ward, and Mrs. Mary Bryson, all of Greenville.
