Della Jane Smith Powers, 60, of Fort Washington Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Highland County, died Friday, Feb. 7, 1997 at Fort Washington. Hospital. She was born in Highland County Dec. 5, 1937, a daughter of Clara Simmons Smith and the late Samuel Smith. Mrs. Powers was a restaurant manager before her retirement. She is survived by her mother, Clara Smith of Newport News; three sons. Dale Simmons of La Plada, Md., Dickie Simmons of Alexandria, and Roger Simmons of Upper Marlboro, Md.; four sisters, Virginia Simmons of Harrisonburg, Margie Shifflett of McGaheysville, Goldie Burke of Front Royal and Mary Margaret Bright of Manassas; a brother, Gilbert Smith of Keezletown, and three grandchildren. A funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell by the Rev. Chris Weitzel. Burial was in the Head Waters Cemetery.
