CRAMERTON, N.C.Our beloved mother, Evelyn Bobbitt Beasley, passed away peacefully at the age of 94, on Friday, August 7, 2015, at Carillon Assisted Living in Cramerton, N.C., where she had been a resident for the past 2 ½ years. Following a courageous five year battle with Alzheimer's, she will rest in eternity with her Lord and Savior.Evelyn was one of ten children born to David Luther Bobbitt and Ruth Carden Bobbitt. She was born on March 16, 1921, in Durham, N.C., and attended Durham schools where she was an avid softball player along with her sister, Edith, both eventually playing on the company softball team at American Tobacco Company where they worked.On July 24, 1937, Evelyn married Burton William Beasley. They were married for 69 years until his death on October 30, 2006. Evelyn and B.W. lived in a number of communities including Durham, N.C., Charleston, S.C., Charlotte, N.C., Greenville, S.C., and Danville, Va., as they worked and raised a family. They resided in Gastonia, N.C., for the past 45 years.Mrs. Beasley was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church and was currently a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Gastonia. She participated in a tutoring program through the Gaston County Schools and enjoyed fellowship and community service with the Gaston County Home Demonstration Club. She was a talented seamstress and also enjoyed both quilting and crocheting. Her family was the greatest joy of her life and she was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy B. and Edwin "Mac" Liles of Danville, Va., Sandra B. and Douglas W. Elliott of Charlotte, N.C., and Malinda B. and John S. Lowery of Gastonia; her two sons and daughters-in-law, Burton W. Beasley, Jr. and Cynthia Beasley, and Stephen D. and Becky Beasley, both of Dallas, N.C.; grandchildren, Matthew V. Liles of Danville, Va., Mark A. Liles of Palmyra, Va., Christopher C. Liles of Louisa, Va., Jennifer E. Sanders, and Joel T. Elliott, both of Charlotte, N.C., Jonathan S. Lowery, Jennifer L. Gibson, Brandy B. Causby, Jason R. Hodges, and Kim Beasley, all of Gastonia, N.C., Burton W. Beasley, III of Dallas, N.C., Mitchell Mackey of Bessemer City, N.C., and Allen Burrell of Dallas, N.C.; 23 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.Mrs. Beasley was the last of her generation. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Hoyle Bobbitt, Jimmy Bobbitt, Marvin Bobbitt, Merle Bobbitt, and Warren Bobbitt; her sisters, Josephine B. Duncan, Ruby B. Helton, Ruthie B. Deese, and Edith B. Porter; and a grandson, Burton D. Elliott.Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. on Sunday, August 9, 2015, at McLean Funeral Directors in Gastonia. At other times the family will be at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law, Malinda and John Lowery.Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, August 10, 2015, at the First Presbyterian Church Chapel, 1621 E. Garrison Blvd., Gastonia, NC 28054 with the Rev. Dr. John L. Frye, Pastor John H. Stanley, and the Reverend James Loftis officiating.
