John H., husband, patriarch, businessman, golfer, and member of The Greatest Generation, passed away at home on January 26, 2019.

Col. Allison served in the Army Air Corps and the U.S. Air Force for 33 years as a Master Navigator through World War II and the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After World War II, he was stationed in Alaska, flying reconnaissance near Russia. He was then assigned to the Strategic Air Command as a B-50 crew member standing on nuclear alert. In 1954, he was selected as a member of the original B-52 Test Team and spent 14 years in the production, procurement and test fields, four years of which were in the Air Force Plant Representative Office at Boeing. There, he oversaw the production of the B-52H, the planes still flying today after 50 years. He wound up his career with a four year assignment in Germany, then as Wing Commander of Osan AFB, South Korea and finally as Base Commander of Sheppard AFB in Texas. While serving, Jack earned his MBA from the University of Chicago in 1958.

In 1975, he and his wife, Tinka, settled in Richmond, where he was the Executive Director of the Virginia Building Materials Association for ten years. Thereafter he worked as a lobbyist for VBMA and other clients. Jack was an early computer geek and used his expertise to help several nonprofits in and around Richmond and Williamsburg. He was a member of Stonehenge and Salisbury Country Clubs, Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church, the Bon Air Rotary Club, the Virginia Society of Association Executives, and a Lifetime member of The Air Force Association and The Military Officers Association of America. Jack was born October 6, 1924, in Pittsburgh.

He was preceded in death by his parents, A. Homer and Margaret P. Allison; and his brother, Robert Allison.

He is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte Herndon “Tinka” Allison, whom he recently married 73 years ago; and by his devoted daughters, Margaret June “Myke” Bryant of Newport News and Chena Butler of Richmond; and his admiring sons-in-law and golfing companions, Joseph J. “Rusty” Bryant and Donald K. Butler.

Jack’s legacy will surely live on through the apples of his eye, his grandchildren, Tyler and Andrew Bryant, of Williamsburg, Allison P. Butler of Raleigh and Charlotte L. Butler of Decatur, Ga.; and his great-grandchildren, Oliver Miles Bryant of Brooklyn, N.Y., Sonny and Jack Bryant, of Williamsburg and Fred A. Sigmon and Gilbert Butler-Hildebrand, of Raleigh. He is also survived by his neices, Dr. Barbara Allison-Bryan of Mathews and Susan Allison Swieterman of Lexington, Ky.; his sister-in-law, June Herndon Miller of Midlothian; and his stepgranddaughter, Player B. Michelsen, husband Mark and their children, Graham, Mac, and Grace, of Glen Allen.

Interment will be private.
